Frequently Asked Questions
Where is The Ghostlight located?
The Ghostlight is tucked beneath the historic Millwald Theatre in downtown Wytheville. To find us, look for the stairwell in the alley just behind the marquee. You’ll descend into a hallway lined with vintage playbills — follow the whispers and you’ll know when you’ve arrived.
Is there a sign or entrance from the main street?
No signage, no fanfare. The Ghostlight is meant to be discovered, not advertised. Entry is through the alley — just follow the light.
How do I get in?
At the end of the hallway, you’ll find a large portrait of Mary Alexander. Behind her watchful gaze is the entrance. If you’ve received the password and the light is glowing, you’re in the right place.
Is the space accessible?
Yes. While the main entrance is down a stairwell, guests requiring accessible entry can enter through the Millwald Theatre’s lobby. An elevator and staff assistance are available — just let the box office or usher know you’re joining us beneath the stage.
When is The Ghostlight open?
We open for select performances at the Millwald Theatre, offering a pre-show experience unlike any other. We also host twice-monthly Ghostlight-only evenings — mysterious, intimate affairs for those on our list. Join the [newsletter] to stay in the know.
Can I make a reservation?
We don’t take reservations. We take hints. If you’ve received an invitation, a password, or a nudge from someone who’s already found us — consider yourself lucky.
Is there a dress code?
Nothing theatrical, but let’s say… you’ll feel most at home in something you’d wear to be seen — or not seen — in the right kind of light.
Not-So-Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Mary Alexander, really?
A name in the program. A face in a frame. A starlet who was scheduled to perform just once — before the stage was bricked over and the films took her spotlight. Some say she still waits for her cue. Others say she never existed at all.
Why the teacups?
In the 1920s, bourbon in a teacup meant survival. Now, it means style. It’s our quiet nod to rebellion — refined, of course.
What happens if I say the wrong password?
You might get a polite smile. Or silence. Or a raised eyebrow. Either way, you won’t be invited in.
Is the ghostlight always on?
You can try. But cameras don’t capture what happens here — only stories do. And even those tend to blur around the edges.
What if I find a key?
Hold onto it. You never know when it might fit something.
